• Successful implementation strategy for the prevention of Surgical Site Infections

      Date: February 17th, 2016

      Time: 10:30 am PST

Speaker: Prof. Sean Berenholtz, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore

      Objectives:

Review an implementation model used in a large scale collaborative to improve safety culture and measurably reduce SSI. The approach focuses on improving culture using the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) and tapping into the wisdom of frontline staff to identify and mitigate local hazards that may be leading to SSIs. Engaging frontline staff and addressing their concerns led to reductions in SSI rates, reductions in costs of care, reductions in hospital LOS and improvements in patient/family satisfaction scores.
