The virtual sessions will discuss engineered infection prevention and various CSA standards and will feature guest presenters from CHAIR Canada.
A certificate of attendance will be provided for attendees upon completion of each of the session.

- Introduction to Engineered Infection Prevention and CSA Standards
Date/time: Wednesday March 12, 2025, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
This session will address the following questions:
- Who is CHAIR and how do they fit into the Infection Control world?
- What is Engineered Infection Prevention (EIP) & why is it so important?
- What are the 5 Canadian Standards Association (CSA) National Standards that most affect health care-associated infection (HAI) rates?
- What is the Precautionary Principle and how does it apply to EIP & CSA Standards?
- What materials and technologies are important for EIP?
- What do I need to know to implement EIP?
- How can I do a cost benefit analysis to compare EIP to my current practice?
- What are the barriers to implementing EIP & how can I overcome them?
Presenters:
- Richard Dixon BSc, HSM, is the Co-Founder of CHAIR. He has the experience of a 40-year career in healthcare administration, planning, design, and operation including infection control, 10 years of experience managing scientific studies for infection control, and a long history of developing CSA Standards. Richard was presented with the CSA Award of Merit in 2018.
- Barry Hunt, BSc, is the Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of CHAIR. He has the experience of a 40-year career in healthcare, laboratory, and industry research and development and 30 years of experience in CSA Standards development. Barry was previously the Vice-Chair of the Strategic Steering Committee for Healthcare where he initiated the HAI Task Force and CSA Express Document EXP06:15, Evaluating Emerging Materials and Technologies for Infection Prevention and Control.

- How does the Precautionary Principle apply to Z317.12?
- Why is there a new focus on aerosolization and re-aerosolization and what are the recommendations?
- Why is there a new focus on Dry Surface Biofilms and what are the recommendations?
- Why is there a new focus on sinks and what are the recommendations?
- How does the concept of Minimum Infectious Dose apply to EIP?
- How can EIP address the current challenges in cleaning and disinfection?
- How can I assess the effectiveness of our current practice verses EIP?
- How can I meet the requirement to have EIP experts to advise, inform and recommend EIP solutions to the infection prevention and control multi-disciplinary team?
