May 5th is World Hand Hygiene Day: Your Action Saves More Lives
On May 5th, PICNet recognizes World Hand Hygiene Day, a global campaign led by the World Health Organization. This campaign, now in its 18th year, reminds health-care workers that proper hand hygiene — performed at the right moments and in the right way— continues to be one of the most effective and cost‑efficient ways to prevent health-care associated infections.
To avoid this daily and preventable threat, remember that properly cleaned hands protect patients, residents, health-care workers, and visitors – and are the foundation of safe, high‑quality care across all health-care settings.
Remind your teams about proper hand hygiene
To raise awareness, celebrate best practices, and re‑engage teams, PICNet offers the following resources:
- A hand hygiene education course for refresher or onboarding learning*
- Short videos for huddles and staff meetings
- Interactive games and activities to boost engagement
- Posters and visuals to reinforce key messages at the point of care
*The Provincial Hand Hygiene online education course is currently being updated – stay tuned for news about the refreshed course in future issues of PICNet’s newsletter
